On April 12, 2010, Farhad Alavi was elected to the IABA Board of Directors. Farhad is an independent lawyer in the Washington, DC area. His areas of professional interest are primarily trade regulations (e.g., sanctions and export controls laws) and domestic and international transactions. He has been a member of the IABA since 2005, and this is second term as an IABA national Board member, the first time being in the 2008-2009 term.
Farhad was previously an attorney at Baker & McKenzie LLP in Washington, DC, where he practiced in the Customs and Corporate and Securities groups. His experience also includes working as an attorney in the International and Cross-Border Transactions group of Holland & Knight LLP in Washington, DC and also Abu Dhabi, UAE. He also has experience working in a startup law firm.
Farhad received his LL.M. in Banking & Financial Law from Boston University School of Law in 2004, his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law in 2003, and his B.A. in Economics and International Relations from Tufts University in 2000. He is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia. He is fluent in Persian and Spanish.
